GARDENER
Responsibilities
1) Landscaping & Plant Care
- Maintain lawns, flowerbeds, shrubs, trees, and potted plants across the site.
- Pruning, trimming, edging, weeding, mulching, and seasonal replanting.
- Apply fertilisers/soil improvers and basic pest/disease control (within safe/legal guidelines).
- Identify plant health issues and recommend corrective actions.
2) Irrigation & Water Management
- Operate and monitor irrigation systems (timers, sprinklers, drip lines).
- Detect and report leaks, blockages, low pressure, and damaged fittings.
- Support water-efficient practices appropriate to Malta’s climate.
3) Grounds Presentation & Event Readiness
- Prepare outdoor areas before events: tidy, sweep/blow paths, remove debris, ensure landscaped areas are clean and sharp.
- Maintain walkways, stairs, rail edges, and outdoor guest areas to a safe standard.
- Support quick turnarounds after events (early morning clean-up support where required).
4) Equipment Use & Maintenance
- Safely use and maintain tools: strimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers, lawnmowers, basic power tools.
- Keep a simple inventory of tools, consumables, fertilisers, and request reorders.
- Ensure secure storage and clean-up of tools after use.
5) Health, Safety & Compliance
- Work safely around public areas, cables, event builds, moving vehicles, and uneven surfaces.
- Follow PPE requirements and safe handling of chemicals (COSHH-style practices).
- Report hazards immediately (slips/trips, broken tiles, unstable surfaces, exposed irrigation lines).
6) Coordination & Reporting
- Coordinate with Operations, Cleaning, Security, and Event Production to avoid clashes with builds and guest flow.
- Provide weekly updates: completed tasks, issues found, materials required, improvement suggestions.
Expectations
Essential
- Proven gardening/groundskeeping experience (hospitality, venues, or large sites is a plus).
- Ability to work outdoors year-round and handle physically demanding tasks.
- Good understanding of basic irrigation and plant care.
- Good time management and reliability; can work independently.
- Basic spoken English (Maltese is a plus).
Desirable
- Experience with Mediterranean planting and drought-tolerant landscaping.
- Basic maintenance skills (minor repairs, fittings, simple plumbing/irrigation fixes).
- Driving licence (B) and ability to move materials around site (if required).
Working Hours / Schedule
- Typically, 5 days per week, with flexibility based on event calendar.
- Early starts may be required (e.g., pre-event preparation and post-event morning checks).
- Weekend/holiday availability during peak season and major events.
